Everything the desktop program did, and more

Open any Assist file

Load .qst, .txt, .qsz and .qsze files from Files, a link, a ZIP archive or straight from a chat with “Open with…”. Encodings (UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1251) are detected automatically.

Training mode

Answer, see immediately whether you were right, partially right or wrong, and read the help text the author left for you.

Exam mode

No hints until the end. Optional time limit with a countdown that keeps running in the background and a notification when time is up.

Smart selection

All questions, a random subset drawn evenly across groups, or a range. Only favorites, only not answered, or work on your errors.

Full editor

Create tests with groups, help texts, images on questions and answers, swipe to reorder or delete, validation before saving.

Statistics

Attempts per day, frequency per test, pass rate and learning progress for a week, month, year or all time.

Share and save

Export as .qst, .qsz or .qsze, optionally zipped, and send it to a group chat or save to Files.

Private by design

No account, no tracking SDKs, no advertising. Only anonymous crash reports, and only if you opt in by building with a Sentry key.

Six question types

1

Test

Single or multiple choice, decided by how many answers are marked correct.

2

Reorder answers

Put the answers in the right sequence.

3

Fill correct answer

Type the answer; case and spacing are ignored.

4

Fill correct answer (number)

Type a number; compared numerically, so 3,5 equals 3.5.

5

Fill out skipping (text)

Gaps in the question marked as ***[answer]***; type each one.

6

Fill out skipping (choice)

Same gaps, but you pick each from a list.

Three steps

  1. 1

    Receive a file

A teacher or classmate sends a .qst or .qsz in Telegram, WhatsApp or by e-mail.

  2. 2

    Open it in Assyst

Tap the file and choose Assyst, or use + → Load file inside the app.

  3. 3

    Practise, then pass

Train with feedback, review your errors, then take the exam with a timer.

File formats

Assyst reads the legacy text and binary formats of the Windows program Assist and writes its own lossless .qsze format.

QST / TXT

Plain text. A line starting with ? begins a question, + marks a correct answer, - an incorrect one. Multi-line text is allowed. One + makes a single-choice question, several make a multiple-choice question. UTF-8 (with or without BOM), UTF-16 and Windows-1251 are detected on import.

QSZ

The legacy binary format: a zlib stream in which each question is stored as an int32 length and text, an answer count, and per-answer text with a flag (−1 correct, 0 incorrect). Only choice questions can be represented.

QSZE

The native format: zlib, little-endian int32 numbers, UTF-8 strings. It stores the test name, author, version, dates, question groups, all six question types, help texts and embedded images for both questions and answers. This is the format to use when you want nothing lost.

Questions people ask

›Is it really free?

Yes. There are no paid tiers, no in-app purchases, no advertising and no feature limits.

›Does it need internet?

No. Everything works offline. The network is used only if you import from a URL or check for updates.

›My .txt file is rejected on iPhone.

Assyst accepts .txt with qst syntax on both platforms. If a file still fails, use “Select format” in the import dialog.

›Will my old .qsz files open?

Yes, including files saved in Windows-1251 by the original program.

›Can I keep images and question types when sharing?

Only .qsze preserves types, groups, help texts and images. .qst and .qsz are kept for compatibility with the desktop program.
